Happy Birthday Erik Satie!
Today is May 18, so I am one day late this year in celebrating Erik Satie's birthday which is on May 17. However, his big birthday is actually next year, 2016. We will be celebrating Satie's 150th year of his birth (1866) then. In commemoration, we have quite a few programs around Satie in the coming year, some of which are solo recitals for me, and some are four-hand recital with Ami. The celebration is already starting. In Street, Somerset (U.K.) last month (April 30), I gave a solo recital in Millfield School with mostly Satie program with the bubbly Sonatine Bureaucratique, and Embryons Désséchés, as well as Gymnopedies and Gnosiennes. And next week, we will be performing our first Satie duo-program, which will include, in addition to four-hand works by Satie, works by Debussy, Ravel, and the members of les Six. This will be in Guernsey, in the Victor Hugo Festival. We are very excited! We will keep you posted on other Satie projects coming up!
